In July 2010, Play It By Ear Productions had the pleasure of developing and implementing the Edmonton Regional Tourism Group's (ERTG) 6th annual Country Cuisine Taste! of Summer event for the second year in a row. In order to effectively communicate with the organizations target audience, and increase brand recognition of Re-imagine, a number of strategies were developed. For instance, a 'glossary of terms' was developed to reduce the use of technical jargon, key messages were developed, key spokespeople received media training, and social engagement activities such as Tower Renewal Summits were organized. PIBE continues to work with MIA, helping the firm to plan their next Tower Renewal Summit in November 2010.

Second Annual 104 St. Al Fresco Block Party

For the 2nd year in a row, Play It By Ear Productions had the pleasure of working with deVine Wine & Spirits to develop and implement the annual 104 St. Al Fresco Block Party. Our team came on board as event facilitator to help increase organization of the event, as well as coordination of street programming while managing all media relations. In 2010, all proceeds from the event went to E4C Kids Lunch Program. Highlights of the day included an expanded wine tasting event, outdoor yoga and street art demonstrations, two sound stages featuring local artists and DJ's, a Portuguese BBQ coupled with a crostini bar, an extended licensed patio and a free outdoor film screening. Attendance and interest in the event in 2010 far exceeded the 2009 event. The team at Play It By Ear looks forward to working with the Al Fresco team again in 2011 to continue supporting local charities in a community building manner. View photos from the event here

Assembly of First Nations - National Chief Selection - 2009

In 2009, Calgary was selected as the location for the 30th Annual General Assembly of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) and the election of the National Chief, held at the Telus Convention Centre on July 21st- 23rd, 2009. While the Assembly is held each year, the election of the National Chief is held only once every three years. This particular election marking the end of the era of First Nations political groundbreaker, Chief Phil Fontaine. More than 3,000 delegates attended, including 633 Chiefs and proxy voters.

In this very historical and significant National Chief Election and Annual General Assembly, PIBE was invited to assist the Treaty No. 7 Host Committee in the planning, and lead of all logistics for the Host Committee Activities. The Host activities were designed to foster an inclusive and informative culture in Calgary surrounding the Assembly and the Election between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples. The Host Committee included a variety of interest groups including corporate sponsors, involved First Nations groups in Alberta, the Alberta government, and local community organizations including the City of Calgary, Tourism Calgary, The Calgary Stampede, Downtown Calgary Business Association.

PIBE advised on effective ways for the Treaty No. 7 Host Committee to reach, relate and interact with its primary and secondary audiences in Alberta and across Canada on behalf of the AFN, and how to creatively and effectively deliver key messages to all stakeholders. Collaborating with multiple partner organizations, PIBE helped to ensure the tactics and the overall strategy addressed the needs of each organization. We also provided media relations support including the organization and development of a media conference, sponsor communications support and volunteer management throughout the conference.

Over the course of four days, PIBE produced eight separate and culturally intricate events held in multiple downtown Calgary locations for the 3000 delegates.

PIBE continues to support and collaborate with First Nations organizations to improve the communication and sharing of culture between First Nations citizens and their partners and neighbors. To view images from the convention click here.
